very quick recs and a hasty ficlet

Um... I hadn't intended to write fic this morning. But I looked at [info]zephre's Cinnamon and Peppermint (NC-17!) before breakfast, which made me curious about [info]melfinatheblue's fics, which led me to How Could You Use a Poor Maiden So? (HG/LM, LM/SS, R), which not only amused me immensely but infected me with an "Early One Morning" earworm. And earworms breed plot-terriers. *shakes ficlet off heel*

Title: Oh Don't Deceive Me, Oh Never Leave Me
Rating: G
Words: 400
Pairing: Lupin/Snape, established longterm relationship
Universe: Placet, which is AU after HBP. This takes place at least a decade after the end of the War.

When they sang 'Early One Morning' late one night, the two first-years had merely intended to comfort a pretty ghost... )

"Placet" - archive/comm update

I'm very fond of my ThinkPad, but its O/S doesn't tend to handle installations well, and when I tried to load Python earlier tonight (in order to take advantage of a LJ community migration tool), it basically choked. I'm not sure I would have been technically adept enough to see the process through, so it's probably just as well.

At any rate, via old-fashioned copy-and-paste, all my [info]placet drabbles and ficlets are now archived on IJ as well as LJ, and the links on the the master timeline will remain connected to Cat's posts to the LJ comm unless/until she reposts them to IJ. The most recent story is Response and Responsibility (originally posted 27 July).

ficlet for Lore: Caro Severus

Bestest birthday wishes to you, [info]_lore!

When AUs collide: a note from [info]placet!Paola to [info]trio_snape, accompanying a Ravenclaw prefect and two enormous hampers, all delivered via a Kitty-chan portkey:

Caro Severus,

I know you didn't think so, but I was in fact listening when you lectured me yet again on the reduced efficacy of certain ingredients when miniaturized or otherwise unduly stressed -- that, and I really have no desire to pack your squid beaks, spider flosses, sea-urchin squirt-paks, twenty varieties of Fukushima fungi, and other unholy, ungodly, and otherwise unlovely requests with my silks and brocades. Hence, I'm sending them ahead with Miss Kandeko (who is a most sensible child, and this was truly the best field excursion ever. I can't wait to show you the data we collected in Aizu). She is also bringing some chocolate confections from Kanazawa Station for that long-suffering partner of yours -- who knew there were so many good patisseries this side of Paris? -- and a bottle of sake from Hashiguchi-san. That you remember her fondly is no mystery whatsoever; why she remembers you with affection would be far more baffling had she not seized her first available opportunity to show off a certain set of thoroughly annotated notebooks from your last sojourn here, gabbling your praises at two hundred kilometres an hour. Honestly, Severus, your neverceasing compulsion to improve things is ... adorable (as I know Remus tells you constantly, and I somehow suspect you still don't believe). Yes, yes, I realize you're scowling at me now (as if you ever stopped); I shall Apparate home shortly so that you can indulge in the satisfaction of doing so in person -- and, of course, to address whatever traumas you'll claim to have inflicted on my classes during my absence. If you haven't assigned at least seven double-detentions to the Wimseys I shall know that you are truly becoming a softie.

Con affetto,
Paola

[Postscript - charmed for Snape's eyes only:

Yes, I also picked up the specially charmed haori you requested for Remus, and I can't wait to see him in it. Have I told you lately how much better he looks since you became a couple? (Of course I have -- but it pleases me to keep reminding you. It is far too much fun watching you attempt to accept compliments and plan vengeance on me simultaneously. Isn't it a pity that I really am the best Astronomy instructor you know?) Millione baci! P.]
